PTO Definition
PTO, or paid time off, is time off where an employee earns their regular wages when they are gone for holidays, vacation, illness, personal time, etc.
Paid Time Off Extended Definition
An employee on PTO can take time away from work for any reason while receiving their regular wages. It is a common benefit in a compensation package.
There is no federal law requiring that employers offer paid time off. However, there are state laws that require employers to offer paid sick leave. And, some states require employers to offer employees paid time off for any reason.
